The forces of globalization have given rise to a new industry, medical tourism. While traveling to obtain
medical care is not a new concept itself, the practice of consumers from the United States traveling to
developing nations for health care is novel. Accurate data on the industry are scarce. This paper presents
the results of a survey of medical tourism service providers, and discusses the potential impacts of
medical tourism on both developing nations and the United States.
